Module 3

1. "We are all here on earth to help others. What I can't figure out is what the others are here for." - W. H. Auden

I believe the main reason why WE are all here on earth is to help each others and live our life. "WE" from the word itself means that all of us. Everyone needs help in times of trials. I need help, you need help, we need help. I believe no one on earth who does not need a help. But, helping someone without expecting something in return is really a good and noble thing. We should be sensitive enough that others need our help and be sincere on doing it. It really feels great when you helped someone.

2. Ethical egoists think that people will be happiest if they look out for themselves and not concern themselves with others but is this where true human happiness lies?

I STRONGLY believe that is NOT TRUE. Looking for happiness only for your self without concerning others welfare or may feel is not really happiness. How could you be happy if others are not?. I know there's something that will bother you and that is "guilt". True happiness, I think involves everyone. Every actions we do may or may not affect others. In this sense, doing things with good intentions should be of concerned and that is where happiness truly lies.

3. What are the roots of egoism? Where does it come from? What do egotistical people FEAR?

The roots of egoism are pride, desire for control, desire for power and self-interest. In which, I think comes from man's desire to be superior than everyone. Egostistical people fear that they will be surpassed by others, laughed at and fear of failing or not achieving what they want/desire.
